Dropping Python 2 Support
It is now well over three years since the Python 2 sunset date, during which time Cloudsmith has continued to support Python 2 in its cloudsmith-cli package which many customers utilise to administer repositories programmatically.
However, the time is upon us where in order to continue delivering the best CLI package possible, we must drop support for that legacy runtime. This is scheduled to take effect as of cloudsmith-cli version 1.0.0, which we anticipate will be published within the coming months.
As of that release, any customers still running Python 2 may notice that new versions of cloudsmith-cli refuse to install, or may not run. While the existing Python 2-compatible versions may continue to work in that runtime in the short term, they will not be guaranteed to do so going forward, and no new features or bugfixes will be available to Python 2 users.
How does this affect me?
Customers currently running Python 3 are not affected.
Customers currently running Python 2 are strongly encouraged to move to Python 3 to avail of future features, bugfixes and security updates. If you have any queries or concerns about the above, please contact us.
